Board Agenda Item 5.01 – Legislative Updates

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received a Legislative update on bills that could impact CCSD. Currently, there are approximately 325 bills that could impact CCSD in one way or another. April 12 is the deadline for bills to pass their first committee in their house of introduction.

Modernizing Nevada’s funding formula remains CCSD’s top legislative priority. CCSD Government Relations staff are in contact with Sen. Mo Denis, Sen. Joyce Woodhouse, and other legislative leaders who are supportive of modernizing Nevada’s 52-year old funding formula. CCSD remains hopeful that a bill to update the funding formula will be introduced.

Board Agenda Item 5.02 – Protocol for Communication of School Threats

The Trustees were provided with a presentation regarding the protocol for communication of school threats.

The goal is to provide timely, accurate information to key CCSD audiences when there is a school threat. Information is communicated to Trustees, District leadership, school principal/department leads, parents and the media.

When it comes to notifying parents, school administrators work with their Region Superintendent and the Communications Office to determine if parent notification is needed – typically if the situation results in a campus disturbance, or widespread concern among students and/or parents. If so, ParentLink messages are sent as soon as information can be confirmed.
