The White House released its K-12 education platform, Improving Student Achievement Agenda for 2024, outlining three areas of focus for states and districts to improve student outcomes:

  • Increasing student attendance
  • Providing high-dosage tutoring
  • Increasing summer learning and extended or after-school learning time

Why it matters: While the Biden Administration invested billions of dollars of federal relief funds for education, this is the first time we see the administration prioritize specific strategies to improve student outcomes.

In the accompanying guide Raise the Bar: Strategies to Improve Student Achievement, several strategies are highlighted that CCSD is already undertaking, such as our Every Day Matters Campaign, utilizing Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and early warning sign systems, and strengthening relationships with families.

Per U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, “There must be equal parts support and accountability to get the best for our children.” States and districts can expect accountability and support measures to include:

  • Publishing state’s specific actions to increase student attendance, expand high-dosage tutoring, and provide summer and extended or after-school learning time.
  • Increased state monitoring: USDOE will conduct additional monitoring of the implementation of evidence-based strategies at the local level.
  • New school improvement guidance: To develop the guidance, USDOE is requesting experts and practitioners submit evidence-based strategies and resources to the Best Practices Clearinghouse.
