Shawn is the first to say his freshman year was difficult because everything was online and everyone was isolated. It was especially difficult to enjoy music classes because he lacked confidence and was afraid of criticism. With online instruction, he missed getting to make friends, direct instruction from teachers, and performing with the orchestra. He was failing his classes. What stands out the most is not Aliya’s intelligence, but her compassion, curiosity and love for learning. She has taken the most rigorous courses at Rancho High School and has excelled in each one. The Clark County School District (CCSD) proudly celebrates the Duane D. Keller Middle School student council. The group earned the 2024 National Gold Council of Excellence from the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The student council was selected for its dedication to promoting positivity, inclusivity, and community service during the 2023-24 school year. Dusty Dickens Elementary School engineering teacher Ekuwah Moses was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner for the 2023-2024 National Life Group LifeChanger of the Year Program.  Ekuwah was recognized in front of more than 700 students and staff during a surprise assembly Friday, April 12. She received a $10,000 prize, which includes a $5,000 individual prize and a $5,000 donation to Dickens Elementary School. Ekuwah also received an all-expenses paid trip to Maui. The Clark County School District celebrates Principal Amy Wagner, who was recognized as the Administrator of the Year by the Nevada Association of Student Councils (NASC). The award is given to administrators who demonstrate a commitment to student activities and support for students. Boulder City High School students recently celebrated Mrs. Wagner’s recognition. Ballet Folklórico Alborada de Sunrise Mountain High School danced to three first-place trophies in the 2024 Texas State Folklórico Competition. The Sunrise Mountain HS folklórico team, a group of talented 9th-12th graders, showcased their exceptional skills in a competition that featured nearly 60 teams from Texas and Nevada. Ballet Folklórico Alborada took first place for solo, duet and ensemble.  Adding to the team’s three first-place trophies, Karla Garcia-Cardenas, program director for Ballet Folklórico Alborada de Sunrise Mountain High School, also earned first place in the director’s category.
