Reynaldo Martinez was born in 1937 in Chama, New Mexico, but was raised in Henderson, Nevada where he attended Basic High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Arizona State University in 1961.  Before starting his teaching career, he served as a member of the United States Naval Reserve.  His teaching career began at Western High School where he was recognized as an Outstanding Teacher in Clark County. The legacy of Edmundo “Eddie” Escobedo will live on forever within the Clark County School District (CCSD) community.  Born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, Mr. Escobedo arrived in El Paso, Texas in 1953 where he worked in the food service industry before enlisting into the Air Force where he worked on jet mechanics as a parachute rigger.  After being honorably discharged from the military he landed in Clark County where he began his entrepreneurship promoting live Mexican dances with top musical groups. The Clark County School District (CCSD) recognizes October 6-12, 2024 as Fire Prevention Week. The week emphasizes the importance of educating children, adults, and teachers on how to prevent fires and stay safe in case of a fire.  CCSD students can get a headstart on preparing for a career in firefighting through the Fire Science program offered at Bonanza High School and Basic Academy of International Studies. The program builds on the principles of fire protection, chemistry, and prevention techniques. Students also have the opportunity to work with professional equipment such as hoses and ladders. The Clark County School District (CCSD) is now accepting applications for students interested in attending one of the District’s choice offerings, including our award-winning Magnet Schools.  Families can also submit a Change of School Assignment (COSA) application for the 2025-2026 school year. The application window is open through January 14, 2025. CCSD continues to provide families with more school choice options. Marvin M. Sedway Middle School and Barry and June Gunderson Middle School celebrated the opening of new, state-of-the-art fitness centers with ribbon-cutting ceremonies. The National Foundation for Govenors’ Fitness Councils (NFGFC) selected both middle schools as DON’T QUIT! Champion Schools and gifted both with brand new fitness centers valued at $100,000. LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) identified a potential central budget deficit due to unanticipated increases, such as litigation and cybersecurity expenses, during its regularly scheduled accounting year-end close-out process, which typically runs through mid-October. The possible deficit did not impact the fall school budgets but we did inform principals for their awareness. The District will make every effort to absorb any identified central budget deficit to avoid impacting school budgets. Student enrollment is confirmed each fall. Roger D. Gehring Academy of Science and Technology has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for academic performance and education equity. The Clark County School District (CCSD) elementary school is the only school in Nevada to earn the award from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) this year.
