The Clark County School District is saddened to hear of the passing of former educator, community leader, and CCSD namesake Betsy Rhodes.  Ms. Rhodes was a fierce advocate for CCSD students. In 1977, she was the organizing chairman of the Assistance League’s Operation School Bell, which provided CCSD students in need with resources, which in turn boosted school attendance, academic performance, and students’ overall well-being.  For over forty years, she served as a community leader devoted to education and philanthropic advances. Today is International Walk and Roll to School Day! Today highlights the importance of physical activity and pedestrian safety.   Students across the District will participate in walking parades to promote safe and active transportation.  CCSD Safe Routes to School provides students with valuable resources on safety when commuting to and from school. The Clark County School District (CCSD) welcomes the support of the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF), which launched a new initiative to support teachers across the district.  On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert joined Britton Banowsky, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff Foundation, along with R. Guild Gray Elementary School staff, students, and community members, to kick off the initiative that will make a lasting impact on teachers across the district. The initiative will focus on strengthening teacher retention by investing in classroom resources, educator recognition, and professional development opportunities. 

The Clark County School District (CCSD) recognizes October 5-10, 2025, as Fire Prevention Week. The week emphasizes the importance of educating children, adults, and teachers on how to prevent fires and stay safe in case of a fire.  CCSD students can get a head start on preparing for a career in firefighting through the Fire Science program offered at Bonanza High School, Basic Academy of International Studies, and a new program that will be offered at Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy starting next year. Judge John F. Mendoza was born on January 13, 1928, in Las Vegas, NV.  He was a student at Las Vegas High School and the captain of the school’s football team in 1944, leading the team to many victories as a running back. The Wildcats’ 1944 team drew capacity crowds at Butcher Field in downtown Las Vegas, while also setting another high standard with a long list of players who eventually entered the legal profession. Updated October 1, 2025 Federal funds constitute about 11% of the Clark County School District (CCSD)’s overall budget. They are absolutely critical, directly supporting essential services and staff across our schools. These funds fuel programs such as food service, extended learning opportunities, tutoring and academic support, and professional development for our educators. Furthermore, federal funding helps support nearly 1,800 staff positions within our district. Our district is closely monitoring this situation.
