Raul P. Elizondo, Jr. was born in Mesa, Arizona on July 21, 1967. He was raised in Henderson, Nevada and attended Basic High School, where he was a member of the 1984 State Championship wrestling team. His mother, Ann, was a teacher at the Clark County School District. Officer Elizondo became a North Las Vegas police officer on March 13, 1992, and was recognized for his dedicated service within two years by the Chief of Police. Dr. Diaz was born in 1953 in California, where he stayed and pursued various educational titles.  He received a double degree in nursing and biology from California State University. He then received his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine, and later followed it with a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine in Los Angeles.  In 1991, Dr. Diaz moved his family to Las Vegas, where he began a private practice called the Children’s Lung Specialist. Manuel J. Cortez, better known by family, friends, and associates throughout the Southern Nevada community as “Manny” was a man for whom the words “public service” had a deep resonance.  Mr. Cortez, originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, moved to Las Vegas with his family in 1944, at the age of five. After graduating from Las Vegas High School and serving three years in the Army, he returned to Las Vegas to further his education at Nevada Southern University. The Clark County School District (CCSD) remains focused on building financial reserves and taking steps to improve its credit rating to maximize the funds the District has available for repairs and updates to school buildings.  This month, the District sold $626 million in bond issues to continue its capital improvement program for school construction and modernization.  This is the largest competitive bond sale for the District since 2008, when it sold $675 million.  “As educators, we work each day focused on student achievement, and fiscal management is top of mind,” CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert said. “These bonds will help CCSD…

Arturo B. Cambeiro was born on April 19, 1932, in Havana, Cuba, where he received a bachelor’s degree in science and architecture. When he was 29 years old, Mr. Cambeiro and his family immigrated to the United States. They did not have very much and did not know the language. The Cambeiro family lived in Miami and Los Angeles before landing in Las Vegas, where Mr. Cambeiro became Nevada’s first licensed Hispanic architect. The Clark County School District Police Department welcomed five new police officers to the force.  The officers were celebrated at a graduation that culminated six months of field training in partnership with other law enforcement agencies. They will now be part of the CCSDPD force and will be stationed at our schools. We wish them the best in this new journey!   Learn more about CCSDPD here.
