Reynaldo Martinez was born in 1937 in Chama, New Mexico, but he was raised in Henderson, Nevada where he attended Basic High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from Arizona State University in 1961.  Before starting his teaching career, he served as a member of the United States Naval Reserve.  His teaching career began at Western High School where he was recognized as an Outstanding Teacher in Clark County. Liliam Lujan Hickey was an outstanding member of the Hispanic community. She always had the desire to serve her community and promoted educational programs throughout Nevada.  Hickey was born in Havana, Cuba in 1932. In 1964 her husband had the opportunity to work in a casino in the fast-expanding City of Las Vegas, so they made the big move.  Hickey established Career Day for high school students, which, over the years, awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to Hispanic students. Tony Alamo was born June 4, 1941, in Isabela de Sagua, Cuba before arriving in Miami in 1961.   In 1963, he married his wife Maria and moved to Nevada in 1974, where he became a U.S. citizen. Mr. Alamo’s college education and U.S. citizenship were earned entirely through his own effort. He was a passionate advocate of freedom, hard work, integrity, and education. He began his career in gaming as a janitor for Harrah’s Hotel in Reno, Nevada, and worked his way up the corporate ladder.  Mr. Alamo served as a Commissioner on Tourism and served on the selection…

Hundreds of Clark County School District (CCSD) students will be participating in the Green Our Planet Fall Giant Student Farmers Market! Come support our students as they put their entrepreneurial skills to the test by selling their school-grown produce and handmade crafts. All profits will be reinvested into the school’s garden programs. The Farmers Market will take place on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center. Aldeane Comito Ries’s dedication will always be remembered in the Clark County School District. She dedicated her professional life to our school district and built a legacy with decades of service to various of our schools.  In her 38 years of service as an educator, Aldeane Comito Ries worked in every educational level, beginning in elementary school and then moving to the junior high and high school level. The Clark County School District, Teach For America Nevada, and Spread the Word Nevada have partnered on a community-wide initiative to raise third-grade literacy proficiency to 64% by 2030. The group celebrated the launch of Read With Me NV at Helen Herr Elementary School on Thursday.
