The Clark County School District celebrated the first day of school on Monday, August 11! It was an amazing day full of excitement as we welcomed our students back into the classroom. The public is encouraged to report road safety matters, such as the need for crosswalks, crossing guards, traffic signs, and safety lights, to the respective municipality where the road is located. LAS VEGAS – Agenda Item 3.01 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update on Student Discipline The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees accepted a presentation update on the Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan focused on student discipline. The report noted that third-quarter student suspensions continued downward for a second consecutive school year, with more than 2,000 fewer suspensions during the 2024-2025 school year compared to the 2023-2024 school year. A recent Clark County School District (CCSD) graduate has achieved what many theatre students aspire toward: winning a National High School Musical Award, also known as a Jimmy Award.  Chris Hayes, a 2025 graduate of the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, brought home the Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor this week. Hayes traveled to New York City to participate in the national competition against more than 100 high school students who were selected to participate. The competition entailed rigorous coaching sessions, training and rehearsals with some of Broadway’s greatest stars. It all culminated in a one-night-only…

The Clark County School District (CCSD) is once again partnering with Cox Communications for the annual Cox Back-to-School Fairs. These are the longest-running school readiness events in Southern Nevada. Students and families are invited to attend these events to prepare for the 2025-2026 school year.  These events will be held in multiple locations throughout July and August. The first event is July 19, 2025. There will be more than 30 community agencies and organizations as well as CCSD departments, providing families with resources. The Clark County School District (CCSD) held a special program to commemorate the groundbreaking of the replacement campus for Helen M. Smith Elementary School.  As part of the 2015 Capital Improvement Program, the replacement school is being built on the same site as the existing school that was built in 1974. The design of the new campus includes flexible learning spaces, enhanced safety and security measures, as well as modern instructional technology. The replacement school is projected to reopen in August 2026.
