Happy Flag Day! On this day in 1777, the U.S. adopted its first flag with 13 stars and 13 stripes to represent each state. Today, the American flag is embroidered with 50 stars for each state and 13 stripes to honor the original colonies.

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Family Engagement Department will be hosting free engaging workshops to gain resources and tools to support summer learning for PK-12 families.  Participants can choose between attending parent/guardian- only sessions or sessions with families learning together. Child care will be provided for CCSD students for those who choose to attend the adult- only sessions.  The Family Academy will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Canyon Springs High School located at 350 E. Congratulations to Sheila Tarr Academy of International Studies for earning the Purple Star School designation from the Nevada Department of Education (NDE). The school was selected due to its commitment to supporting military-connected children. Tarr Academy joins 25 other schools across the state in receiving this recognition since 2021. The school received a certificate and banner to highlight the support it provides for military students who may be adjusting to a new school or who are without a parent during deployment.

The Clark County School District (CCSD) is offering free-of-charge summer learning opportunities to accelerate the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of all CCSD students. All schools will once again provide Summer Acceleration for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 from May 30-June 16, 2023. Valley High School students invited over one-hundred 5th graders from Piggott Academy of International Studies to mentor them and help them with their International Baccalaureate (IB) Exhibition Projects, while 5th graders help their mentors complete their service projects.
