The week emphasizes the importance of educating children, adults, and teachers on how to prevent fires and stay safe in case of a fire.  CCSD students can get a head start on preparing for a career in firefighting through the Fire Science program offered at Bonanza High School, Basic Academy of International Studies, and a new program that will be offered at Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy starting next year. Judge John F. Mendoza was born on January 13, 1928, in Las Vegas, NV.  He was a student at Las Vegas High School and the captain of the school’s football team in 1944, leading the team to many victories as a running back. The Wildcats’ 1944 team drew capacity crowds at Butcher Field in downtown Las Vegas, while also setting another high standard with a long list of players who eventually entered the legal profession. Updated October 1, 2025 Federal funds constitute about 11% of the Clark County School District (CCSD)’s overall budget. They are absolutely critical, directly supporting essential services and staff across our schools. These funds fuel programs such as food service, extended learning opportunities, tutoring and academic support, and professional development for our educators. Furthermore, federal funding helps support nearly 1,800 staff positions within our district. Our district is closely monitoring this situation. The legacy of Edmundo “Eddie” Escobedo will live on forever within the Clark County School District (CCSD) community.  For this week’s National Hispanic Heritage Month feature, we will highlight Edmundo “Eddie” Escobedo, a distinguished businessman and supporter of various local Hispanic and civic organizations in Las Vegas.  Born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, Mr. Escobedo arrived in El Paso, Texas in 1953 where he worked in the food service industry before enlisting into the Air Force where he worked on jet mechanics as a parachute rigger.  After being honorably discharged from the military he landed in Clark County where he began…

Two recent Clark County School District (CCSD) graduates have been named 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholars. Roxy D. Jones of Ed W. Clark High School and Joshua Park of West Career and Technical Academy are two of just 161 high school students across the nation who are being recognized with this prestigious award. Roxy and Joshua’s academic, artistic, and technical achievements helped them rise above the field. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will observe the Week of Respect during the first week of October, beginning Monday, September 29, through Friday, October 4. Schools across the District will participate in activities all week to emphasize a safe and respectful learning environment.  Celebrated every year, the Week of Respect highlights the efforts to address discrimination based on race, bullying, or cyberbullying and creating a safe and respectful learning environment.
