The Clark County School District (CCSD) has added an exciting new tool to support students experiencing homelessness through an agreement with Purposity.  Community members can directly support CCSD students experiencing homelessness by downloading Purposity, a non-profit app connecting users with one-to-one needs in their community. CCSD’s Title I Homeless Outreach Program for Education (HOPE) recently launched a profile that provides community members regular updates on ways they can support students through simple donations from their smartphones. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will observe National School Lunch Week (NSLW) from October 9-13. The NSLW theme this year is “Level Up with School Lunch,” which is designed to show parents, students, and school officials the benefits of eating school lunch. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. National School Lunch Week (NSLW) was created in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. The fall Green Our Planet student-run farmers market will be held Wednesday, October 25 at the Clark County Government Center.  This event empowers students to be farmpreneurs and learn about farming, science, nutrition, and business through hands-on, garden-based learning. All sales will go back to the school to support their garden programs. To learn more about Green Our Planet visit GreenOurPlanet.org.

There will be no school for students on Monday, October 9, 2023, due to a staff development day. Additionally, there is no school for elementary school students on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, due to elementary school parent-teacher conferences. Middle and high school students will have regularly scheduled classes on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

The CCSD Family Engagement Unit will host a Family Academy workshop on October 21 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This event is free for all Title 1 students and families and will focus on strategies to support social-emotional learning and mental health. There will be adult-only sessions or sessions for families that want to learn together. Registration is required by October 20th. Register for the session here.

The Nevada Department of Education honored Laura Jeanne Penrod as the 2024 State Teacher of the Year on Sept 19, 2023.  Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, Nevada Superintendent of Public instruction Jhone Ebert and Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara were all on hand to surprise the Southwest Career and Technical Academy teacher with the award. As part of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Clark County School District (CCSD) is recognizing the contributions and influences that Hispanic Americans have made to the history, culture and achievements of the United States.  As part of the celebration between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15, CCSD is highlighting different Hispanic American namesakes within our district. These schools have been named after influential people who made a long-lasting impact on the Clark County community.  The first namesake being highlighted is Dr. Ruben P.
