Four officers from the Clark County School District Police Department (CCSDPD) are ready to hit the road as part of the CCSDPD Traffic Unit after graduating from Motor School Thursday. Officers Andrew Craft, Jason Martin, Dream Stone and Tony Thalman were among a class of 12 police officers from various local law enforcement agencies who completed the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Motor School. Officers from throughout Southern Nevada taking part in the course learn techniques for enforcing traffic laws as well as defensive and riding skills to keep them safe on the job. Veterans Day is Saturday, November 11 and Clark County School District (CCSD) schools and offices will be closed in observance of Veterans Day on Friday, November 10.  All schools and offices will reopen on Monday, November 13. The Clark County School District (CCSD) celebrates National School Psychology Week beginning November 6-10, recognizing the critical work school psychologists do to help students thrive. This year’s theme is “Let’s Grow Together,” inspired by the importance of both personal and shared strengths in the growth as individuals and school communities in every season of life. The theme recognizes aspects of growth that are fundamental to effective learning environments and school psychologists’ role in supporting student well-being and learning.

Campaign aimed at reducing chronic absenteeism LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) launched the Every Day Matters campaign to emphasize the importance of daily attendance in academic achievement and future success. “Chronic absenteeism is a life-changing choice that impacts the students in the highest need of educational resources and academic support,” said CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Manuel J. Cortez, better known by family, friends, and associates throughout the Southern Nevada community as “Manny”, was a longtime Las Vegan, a man for whom the words “public service” had a deep resonance. Mr. Cortez was a native Las Cruces, New Mexico. He moved to Las Vegas with is family in 1944, at the age of five. After graduating from Las Vegas High School and serving three years in the Army, he returned to Las Vegas to further his education at Nevada Southern University. There will be no school for ELEMENTARY school students on October 10 due to parent-teacher conferences. Classes will resume on Wednesday, October 11. Middle and high school students will have regularly scheduled classes on October 10.

The Clark County School District (CCSD) recognizes Indigenous People’s Day on Oct. 9, 2023.  The District celebrates and honors the heritage and contributions of Indigenous Americans and its culture. CCSD provides opportunities for quality educational and cultural programs and services to eligible Indigenous American and Alaska Native students through the preservation of their unique cultures, traditions, customs, and heritages through the Indian Education Opportunities Program.  Additional information on the program can be found online here. 

The Clark County School District (CCSD) recognizes Fire Prevention Week from October 8-14 to educate children, adults and teachers on how to stay safe in case of a fire.  CCSD offers students the opportunity to get a jumpstart on preparing for a career in firefighting through the Fire Science Program at Bonanza High School. The program builds on the principles of fire protection, chemistry and prevention techniques. Students also have a chance to work with equipment including hoses and ladders.
