Agenda Item 3.01 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update: Chronic Absenteeism The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees accepted a report on the Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan, which focused on chronic absenteeism. The presentation highlighted achievements, including more than 20,000 home visits so far during the 2024–2025 school year and coordinating with community partners and municipalities to expand attendance recognition programs to provide incentives to students. More than 500 CCSD students had the opportunity to see the science behind the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix on Wednesday. As race teams were putting the finishing touches on the cars for the November 23rd race, students from 12 CCSD middle schools got a look at the operations and technology as part of Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc.’s inaugural Community Day. CCSD statement on passing of Lois Tarkanian The Clark County School District (CCSD) is saddened to hear of the passing of education pioneer and CCSD school namesake Lois Tarkanian. Lois inspired many in Southern Nevada for her dedication to educating youth and unrelenting passion for creating programs to help children. She served in multiple education roles over the years, including as a teacher and administrator. She served on the Board of School Trustees for over a decade, including as president. The Clark County School District recognized 86 schools for exemplary academic performance at the 2024-2025 Superintendent’s Honor Roll celebration. Sunday, Aug. 20th 7 p.m. – As of Sunday evening, the Clark County School District continues to monitor Tropical Storm Hilary-related weather. National Weather Service updates indicate lighter weather impacts to Clark County than previously expected. We will monitor weather patterns overnight for any changes, and classes will continue Monday, August 21, as scheduled. Today, the Clark County School District (CCSD) filed a complaint in District Court for an injunction to prevent the CCEA from striking in violation of state law. This action is based on the CCEA’s threats, which were publicly reiterated this weekend, to engage in “work actions”, clearly amounting to a strike, if a contract between the CCEA and the District is not reached by August 26. Because of this impending threat, CCSD also filed with the Employee-Management Relations Board (EMRB) a petition to withdraw CCEA’s bargaining agent status as the representative for  CCSD’s licensed professional employees. The Clark County School District (CCSD) added six positions to Region offices to support school needs and services to principals. CCSD is adding six School Associate Superintendent positions to Regions and one School Associate Superintendent position to be assigned exclusively to School Choice and Innovation to supervise those schools that will be implementing new instructional models and/or concepts. The Clark County School District (CCSD) reviewed the results of a culture and climate survey conducted by an independent third party. In January 2023, CCSD contracted with Public Consulting Group LLC (PCG) to conduct an independent, external Climate and Culture Review.
