Paul Kleemann was faced with a quandary. The guitar instructor at Del Sol Academy knew he would be starting the year with 60 guitars for his students, woefully short of the 200 he needed for distance education. Kleemann told the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Jannelle Calderon that distance learning is particularly challenging when it comes to hands-on subjects like music classes. Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year – one like no other! We missed the sight and sounds of students in schools when classes began, but we were able to gather virtually and kick off the new school year – albeit with a few technological hitches on that first day that affected school districts nationwide opening with full-time distance education. The Clark County School District (CCSD) observed Week of Respect during October 5- 9, launching a yearlong effort to enhance a safe and respectful learning environment. The goal of the week is to decrease bullying / cyberbullying in Nevada by creating a culture of understanding, empathy, and equality. Clark County School District recognized National Custodial Workers Day 2020 on Oct. 2, acknowledging the amazing and talented contributions made throughout the year by these invaluable CCSD employees. The Clark County School District (CCSD) has partnered with the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) to lead the transformation of core curriculum into distance education resources that will benefit students throughout the state. “Ensuring our students receive a high-level of education during distance education is crucial,” said CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F.
