The Clark County School District (CCSD) recognizes October 5-10, 2025, as Fire Prevention Week. The week emphasizes the importance of educating children, adults, and teachers on how to prevent fires and stay safe in case of a fire.
CCSD students can get a head start on preparing for a career in firefighting through the Fire Science program offered at Bonanza High School, Basic Academy of International Studies, and a new program that will be offered at Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy starting next year. The program builds on the principles of fire protection, chemistry, and prevention techniques. Students also have the opportunity to work with professional equipment such as hoses and ladders. The program is run in conjunction with the College of Southern Nevada, allowing students to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. The National Fire Protection Association advocates for the elimination of death, injury, property, and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards. More information and resources can be found here.
