The Clark County School District (CCSD) is saddened to hear of the passing of education advocate and CCSD school namesake Tony Alamo.
He was a passionate advocate of freedom, integrity, and education. His career in gaming began as a janitor for Harrah’s Hotel in Reno, Nevada. Through hard work, a strong work ethic, and dedication, Mr. Alamo worked his way up the corporate ladder. He was very successful in the gaming industry and was a top-ranking Hispanic executive. Sharing his experiences with the community and individuals of all ages has been his way of giving back to society. He has mentored and encouraged individuals to reach for success.
Mr. Alamo has demonstrated his strong commitment to education through scholarship donations to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) for many years. He participated as a motivational speaker for the Hispanic Youth Leadership Conference at UNLV, which was co-sponsored by the Latin Chamber of Commerce. His formula for achievement is to develop a firm foundation of hard work, honor, and instill values to make solid and wise decisions.
Because of his advocacy for education, Tony Alamo Elementary School was named in his honor in 2002. Since the opening of the school, Mr. Alamo’s steadfast devotion to the school was evident through his continuous support and involvement, as well as his generous financial support of school events and celebrations.
