LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) has launched a survey for the community starting today, September 26, as the District considers shifting all school start times by 30 minutes for the 2026–2027 school year. Parents/guardians, students and CCSD staff are encouraged to fill out the survey between now and 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17. It should take approximately 3 minutes or less to complete.
CCSD is exploring this possibility with the goal of creating a schedule that better serves the community, while also minimizing fiscal impact.
“We are asking our entire community to participate in this survey to get an accurate pulse on the topic,” said CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert. “We understand that any change we make to school start times impacts our employees, students, families, and even businesses across Clark County. It’s important to hear from our community.”
Currently, most high schools start at 7 am. Research shows that starting school later in the morning has significant benefits for adolescents. Teens experience improved sleep quality and duration, aligning more closely with their natural sleep-wake cycles. This leads to increased alertness during the school day, which directly supports stronger academic performance. Additionally, later start times are associated with better mental health outcomes, including reduced stress, lower rates of depression and anxiety and improved overall emotional well-being.
The District is seeking input from parents/guardians, students, and staff. The survey closes on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 5 p.m.
