The Clark County School District (CCSD) is sad to hear of the passing of Theron H. Goynes, a CCSD elementary school namesake. He was a lifelong education advocate who left a lasting legacy in southern Nevada.

After serving in the United States Air Force, Mr. Goynes began teaching with CCSD in 1964. He served the district as a teacher, counselor, adult education coordinator, assistant principal, and principal and spent 20 years as a North Las Vegas City Councilman. His dedication to our students and community impacted the many students of the school district and members of our community. His many years of service and commitment to our community led to the honor of naming the Theron H. and Naomi D. Goynes Elementary School, which opened in 2005.

Today, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family and the community of North Las Vegas, where the Goynes family has a tremendous record of public service.
