CCSD statement on passing of Lois Tarkanian
The Clark County School District (CCSD) is saddened to hear of the passing of education pioneer and CCSD school namesake Lois Tarkanian.
Lois inspired many in Southern Nevada for her dedication to educating youth and unrelenting passion for creating programs to help children. She served in multiple education roles over the years, including as a teacher and administrator. She served on the Board of School Trustees for over a decade, including as president. She then served as a Las Vegas city councilwoman and Nevada System of Higher Education regent. The mark she left as a public servant, along with her late husband, Jerry, left an indelible mark on our community. As such, a school was named to honor their legacies. The Lois and Jerry Tarkanian Middle School opened in 2006.
She leaves a lasting legacy in Nevada that will never be forgotten.
