West Career and Technical Academy (WCTA) recently held magnet school tours, allowing prospective students and families to see firsthand what sets this magnet school apart. With the application period for magnet programs open until January 14, students from across the district are considering their high school options, and West CTA is becoming a top choice for many.
During the tour, student ambassadors Taylor Ortiz and Jonathan Carlson led families through various facilities, sharing insights about their specific programs. Taylor, a senior in the Digital Art and Design program, introduced guests to the creative possibilities within the H Building, showcasing the art department’s projects, including the impressive 2D and 3D design work. “Our primary role is to educate people about our school and the range of programs we offer,” Taylor explained, emphasizing the hands-on experience students gain in her program.
Jonathan Carlson, a sophomore and ambassador for the Engineering program, guided visitors through the F Building, where students explore real-world engineering concepts and applications. “When they come here and see what we’re doing, they realize it’s more than just academics; it’s what they’ll experience in their future careers,” Jonathan shared. His enthusiasm captured the practical, career-focused nature of WCTA’s programs, a major draw for many students.
The campus tour offered families a firsthand look at West CTA’s nine specialized programs, spanning fields like medicine, engineering, and digital arts. With internships, rigorous academics, and support for students, West CTA aims to prepare students for both college and career success. The tour concluded with families feeling inspired, and ready to make informed decisions about their high school choices.
