In an educational and fun-filled field trip, fourth-grade students from Triggs Elementary School recently visited the Neon Museum in Las Vegas to dive deep into Nevada’s rich history. The students explored iconic signs from Las Vegas’ past and learned about key industries that shaped the state. From the Moulin Rouge, a historic symbol of integration, to Anderson Dairy, a local agricultural staple, the trip tied local businesses and historical landmarks into Nevada’s broader social and economic narrative.
The organizers structured the field trip into three parts, starting with an introduction in the museum’s lobby. The museum educators guided the students through an engaging tour, where they learned about Nevada’s gaming, mining, and agriculture industries. One standout moment was when students got hands-on by drawing headdresses for the showgirls depicted in the neon signs. This creative activity helped them connect what they learned to tangible expressions of Las Vegas’ history.
By the end of the tour, students had a new appreciation for the historical significance behind the neon signs they pass by every day. The hands-on activities and interactive storytelling transformed what could have been a simple history lesson into an exciting, immersive experience. As one student shared, learning about Las Vegas history through something as simple as a sign made a big impact.
