Summer isn’t just for fun—it’s also for learning! At UNLV’s Young Rebels Program, dozens of students spent their break exploring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) in an exciting and hands-on summer camp. This program gave young minds a chance to dive into these subjects and engage with real scientists, all while exploring the UNLV campus.
An Exciting, Educational Summer
Students shared their enthusiasm for the camp, calling it “amazing and really, really fun.” They spent the summer building robots, tackling engineering challenges, and learning about environmental science from the Desert Research Institute. The camp encouraged creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking, making learning both engaging and enjoyable.
Bringing Science to Life
Students discussed the state of animals in the Arctic, with one student noting they’re “in danger.” This hands-on approach connected students with global issues, showing them how science impacts the real world. Activities like building earthquake-resistant structures helped spark their problem-solving skills, with instructors praising their intelligence and creativity.
Inspiring the Next Generation
UNLV’s goal is to help students see themselves in college, whether at UNLV or elsewhere. The program, in partnership with CCSD, aims to inspire a love for learning early on, showing that science and technology can be fun and rewarding. By introducing kids to STEAM, they’re fostering the next generation of innovators.
