Last week the Interim Finance Committee of the Nevada Legislature approved CCSD’s request for $173.8 million of SB 231 funds to supplement salary increases for eligible employees. Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell presented this request, “SB 231 funds will further enable the district to fund much-deserved pay raises for our dedicated education support professionals, licensed teachers, and police officers.”

Why it matters: SB 231, passed during the 82nd Legislative Session (2023), provided one-time money to school districts for pay raises for licensed educators, school-based support professionals, and police.

  • Negotiated separately from bargaining agreements, the use of SB 231 funds were agreed upon by CCSD and each eligible bargaining unit: Education Support Employee Association, Clark County Education Association, and the CCSD Police Officers Association.
  • SB 231 funds further boost the substantial pay increases included in 2023-2025 bargaining agreements with each unit.

By the numbers: The total request approved by the Interim Finance Committee was $173,805,891.

  • Education support professionals will receive approximately $58,051,168.
  • Licensed professionals will receive approximately $114,711,888.
  • Police officers will receive approximately $1,042,835.

In her own words: Interim Superintendent Brenda Larsen-Mitchell told the committee: “Our employees show up every day to educate our children, and competitively compensating them ensures retention, successful recruitment, and student academic success.”
