?? CCSD recently celebrated Career Exploration Week, raising awareness for middle school students about the opportunities for career and technical education (CTE) pathways at comprehensive high schools and at career and technical academies.
Why it matters: Course selection plays a crucial role in setting up students for high school success, says Sheilah Petrosky, the work-based learning coordinator for CCSD.
What they’re saying: “It is important to ensure that students make informed choices when selecting courses that align with their academic and career paths,” Petrosky says.
- During Career Exploration Week, there was a focus on 8th-grade students, who are starting to meet with their counselors about high school.
?? Promoting awareness takes various forms, including high school counselors visiting feeder middle schools to discuss their programs with students.
- Middle school counselors also engage in meetings with their students to provide information and support.
- Additionally, magnet and career and technical academy recruiters, along with student ambassadors, visit all middle schools to showcase their programs and organize 8th-grade open houses.
