I am happy to announce John Jerard Gatchalian as the 2023 Star Graduate for Sandy Valley High School. He is on track to be our Salutatorian while balancing work, Honors, AP and college classes. He is an extremely ambitious student who is eager to pursue a career in Computer Science. He hopes to use his creativity and intelligence to become a software engineer at Apple, Tesla or Open.AI, where he can help continue the advance of technology in society. He will be helping make his dream come true by attending UNLV in the fall, where he has been accepted into the Honors College.
Jeijae has been such a positive part of Sandy Valley schools and the community. He has been an active member of student council since middle school and is currently the student body president. His enthusiasm has helped increase the number of students participating in Sandy Valley Schools Student Council, which was granted the Southern Star Award, and is on track to receive the highest honor given by the Nevada Association of Student Councils, the Silver Star Award.

Jeijae’s many exceptional qualities have helped him overcome obstacles throughout high school. Having experience working through mental health issues motivated him to become a part of the National Student Advisory Council for Work2BeWell, which is a teen-based organization which aims to spread awareness about mental health.

The Sandy Valley School community is extremely proud of Jeijae. We have no doubt that he will be successful in whatever he chooses to pursue.
