LAS VEGAS – Elementary school students will be introduced to potential careers in Southern Nevada’s most in-demand occupations through the official roll-out of the “NV My Future” and “Workforce Blueprint for Kids” activity books.
Through fun activities in the workbooks, students are learning about career possibilities in Southern Nevada’s target industries and the skills required for those careers.
The activity books can be downloaded for free at NVmyFuture.org and will be utilized in Clark County School District (CCSD) elementary schools to help teachers and families provide career exploration at an early age. The activity books highlight potential careers in Southern Nevada’s target industries: healthcare services, general & advanced manufacturing, information & communication technologies, transportation & logistics technologies, clean technologies, business & financial services, creative industries and other high-demand fields like construction and energy.
The initiative is part of an ongoing collaboration between CCSD and Workforce Connections, Southern Nevada’s Local Workforce Development Board, to help create a strong K-12 talent pipeline that meets the needs of local employers.
Solving the talent supply-demand equation is a critical issue being addressed by Southern Nevada’s Industry Sector Partnerships (ISPs).
“We know that meeting the talent needs of businesses is imperative for the continued economic development of Southern Nevada,” said Jaime Cruz, Workforce Connections Executive Director. “Employers from the ISPs identified the top occupations needed today and in the coming years. Those careers are featured in the activity books.”
The activity books are based on Southern Nevada’s Workforce Blueprint, which identifies Southern Nevada’s current and future workforce needs. The Workforce Blueprint is a collaboration between the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, Vegas Chamber, Latin Chamber, Urban Chamber, Henderson Chamber, Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Workforce Connections.
Programs are supported in whole with federal funds awarded by the U.S. DOL through Nevada DETR to Workforce Connections. An equal opportunity employer/program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request for individuals with disabilities. TTY (800) 326-6868 or Nevada Relay 711.
