Agenda Item 4.02 – Adoption of the 2020-21 Final Budget
The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees approved the adoption of the 2020-21 CCSD final budget.

CCSD is required by state law to submit a final, balanced budget by early June to the State of Nevada Department of Taxation.

CCSD estimates an approximate $2.4 billion general operating budget for the 2020-21 CCSD school year. Due to COVID-19, there are uncertain aspects of the budget, and based on information from the state and historical results from the Great Recession, the District forecasted a reduction in revenues of approximately $38 million. This is the net result of reductions in Local School Support Tax, Governmental Services Tax, Distributive School Account and an increase in property taxes.

As the state considers cuts, the potential to impact the education of children in K-12 is concerning for parents, educators, and CCSD leadership, especially in the phase of a newly unveiled report by the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS) that emphasized issues with understaffing and low per-pupil funding levels that affect all students, but in particular, those students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP). According to the CGCS, CCSD’s state funding is the lowest among urban school systems across the United States.

The budget can be reopened at any point before December to account for additional adjustments.
