Clark County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara followed through on the commitment to taking care of students by delivering meals to children at Siegel Suites Craig, Siegel Suites MLK and Siegel Slots & Suites. Pinkbox doughnuts were also given out at each location.
“The Board of School Trustees continues to work with Superintendent Jara to find solutions to get meals and educational resources in the hands of students,” CCSD Board of School Trustees President Lola Brooks said. “In the last week, our leadership has embraced that effort with these food deliveries as well as orders for devices to help bridge the digital divide.”
“I am pleased to see so many people assisting our students during this unexpected closure,” CCSD Board of School Trustees member Chris Garvey said. “It is important to understand how much of an impact can be made outside of the classroom. Thank you to all the staff who assisted today.”
After getting a first-hand look at the response to the first event Friday, March 27, 2020, Superintendent Jara said the need for the meal delivery options gained increased focus. Starting Monday, April 6, 2020 CCSD Food Service will be staffing 10 additional school sites on a rotating schedule to provide meals to families with limited access to transportation.
“As we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff, we have to remember even a mile can be too far for many families,” Superintendent Jara said. “We are thankful for our community partners who are helping us to identify students in need of these deliveries to provide for our students.”
“Through the great times and the difficult ones, we continue to be Vegas Strong,” said Judith Siegel, Executive Vice President of The Siegel Group. “We are honored to continue our partnership with the Clark County School District to further help the community.”
CCSD Food Service is continually working to evaluate and add food distribution locations as the need and resources are available. All CCSD Distribution Food Sites are open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Meals are available for all children ages 2 -18. Parents and guardians will now be able to pick up meals for their children without their child/children present. For additional details and to locate a site near you, visit ccsd.nutrislice.com.
