Agenda Item 6.02 – Board and Superintendent Communication

Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara provided the Board of School Trustees with an update on the District’s response to concerns over the Novel Coronavirus.

“The Clark County School District has been working closely with the Southern Nevada Health District. CCSD’s Health Services and Emergency Management departments have been receiving updates and attending meetings regarding the Novel Coronavirus, also known as 2019-nCoV.

Currently, there are no known cases of coronavirus in Clark County. However, CCSD’s emergency operations plan does include a response plan in the event schools are impacted.

As with any illness, we ask parents not to send students to schools if they may be sick. We ask all our school communities to follow health guidelines to minimize the spread of illnesses, such as washing hands frequently with soap and warm water, disinfecting surfaces, and covering the mouth and nose with a tissue if you sneeze, properly disposing of it after. While these guidelines may sound minimal, they are relevant in minimizing the spread of illnesses.

We will continue to share information with school communities as necessary and will continue our close collaboration with the Southern Nevada Health District and the appropriate authorities on this issue.

We invite anyone interested in more information to visit SNHD website at snhd.info/coronavirus.”

Agenda Item 4.01 – Proclamation on the 2020 Census

The Board of School Trustees unanimously approved a Proclamation on the 2020 Census. The proclamation indicates that an accurate census count is the critical first step to helping educators address the needs of every child who walks through our
school doors.

More than $800 billion dollars in federal tax dollars are allocated annually back to states, local governments and communities based on census data. Additionally, census data is legally protected and kept confidential for 72 years and can only be used for
statistical purposes.

The proclamation encourages all people who reside within the school district to complete the census to ensure a complete count of our community.
