The 26 CCSD schools earning a 5-star ranking on the Nevada School Performance Framework were celebrated recently as they were included on the Superintendent’s 2024 Honor Roll.
A ceremony honoring their achievements took place at the headquarters of the Las Vegas Raiders, which hosted the event.
Among the noteworthy accomplishments, Mike O’Callaghan i3 Learn Academy, a middle school, appeared on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll for the first time.
- O’Callaghan i3 Learn Academy has made progressive, remarkable strides: Just six years ago, it was a 1-star school.
Another school making its inaugural appearance on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll was Lied STEM Academy, whose principal is Kelly Thorson.
- Thorson, who last year became the principal of the middle school, said a key to their higher academic growth was the staff’s dedication and focus on the “essential learning standards that students need to know to be successful.”
- An additional, critical component in that growth, Thorson said, was “supporting our students’ social emotional learning, including helping them achieve better attendance.”
By the numbers: Two CCSD schools saw a two-star increase since the last ranking — O’Callaghan i3 Learn Academy and Thurman White Academy of the Performing Arts, a middle school.
- What they’re saying: “Our administrators, licensed educators, and support professionals are commended for their dedication and commitment to our students,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell said.
- Larsen-Mitchell also thanked parents and the community, noting their “support is greatly appreciated and critical to our children’s success.”
