08 Apr Seven schools to be removed from year-round list

After careful examination of geographic population changes, the Clark County School District (CCSD) has made the determination to move seven of its schools back to a nine-month calendar beginning with the 2016-17 school year.

The following schools will convert back to a nine-month calendar for the 2016-17 school year:

  • Manuel J. Cortez Elementary School
  • Clyde C. Cox Elementary School
  • Lois Craig Elementary School
  • Ruben P. Diaz Elementary School
  • Steve Schorr Elementary School
  • Wayne N. Tanaka Elementary School
  • Gwendolyn Woolley Elementary School

Removing the seven schools from the year-round schedule will also save the District $1.8 million. Additionally, plans for future schools to open in those geographic areas during the next few years were taken into consideration as they will absorb some of the population growth.

The following schools will remain on a five-track year-round calendar in the 2016-17 school year:

  • Will Beckley Elementary School
  • Laura Dearing Elementary School
  • Mark L. Fine Elementary School
  • Robert L. Forbuss Elementary School
  • Helen Herr Elementary School
  • Robert E. Lake Elementary School
  • Carolyn S. Reedom Elementary School
  • Aldeane Comito Ries Elementary School
  • Bertha Ronzone Elementary School
  • Jim Thorpe Elementary School
  • Harriet Treem Elementary School
  • Neil C. Twitchell Elementary School
  • John Vanderburg Elementary School
  • Shirley and Bill Wallin Elementary School
  • William V. Wright Elementary School

At the moment, there are no plans for additional schools to be converted to year-round schedules. For more information, click here.
