10 Oct Information concerning Chaparral High School
The safety of our students is a big priority at CCSD. As always, we want to keep you informed of important issues.
Regarding the Chaparral High School incident, the following ParentLink message was sent out:
This is Lolo James, Principal at Chaparral High School.
In an effort to keep you informed of important issues taking place in our school community, I wanted to make your aware of an incident that occurred this morning at school. There was an altercation between two students and one of them was stabbed and sustained injuries and was transported for medical attention. No other students other than the two who were involved in the altercation were threatened or injured.
Due to HIPPA laws, the school cannot comment on medical conditions or the extent of injuries other than to say they were deemed non-life threatening. We appreciate your patience and understanding in trying to provide you with as much information as we can, but we must adhere to Federal FERPA and HIPPA laws pertaining to student privacy and to medical conditions.
School will be dismissed at the regular bell time of 2:05 today and we will operate on our normal bell schedule on Wednesday. Please use this opportunity to discuss the matter with your child and they know that weapons are not permitted on campus and if students are aware of a situation where they may be confronted, to contact school administration or law enforcement authorities to prevent incidents like this from happening.
Thank you again for your cooperation.
