06 Oct Foundation and Las Vegas mayor honor Canarelli MS student

A seventh-grade student and her classmates at Lawrence and Heidi Canarelli Middle School received quite the surprise on Friday, Oct. 6.  Representatives from the Simon Keith Foundation, including its namesake, made a surprise presentation in her math class of a proclamation from Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who proclaimed this day as “Brienna Love Day.” Both Keith and Love share a common bond as both are heart transplant recipients and each year, Keith’s organization honors a child who has recently undergone a life-saving organ transplant. the presentation ties in with the organization’s annual fundraising golf tournament and dinner held in Las Vegas. Keith, a former UNLV soccer player, was the first person to play a professional sport after receiving a heart transplant. For Love, it was an emotional presentation that she was able to share with family members who came to the school and classmates who celebrated her achievement of surviving a transplant and also for her recent selection to the Dance Team at the school, all while maintaining straight A’s in the classroom. The presentation also coincided with Nevada school’s observing the annual “Week of Respect,” which promotes positive and caring behavior. To learn more about the Simon Keith Foundation, click here.
