Filipino Special Ed teachers 7-11-17

11 Jul CCSD welcomes special education teachers from the Philippines

On July 11, the Clark County School District (CCSD) hosted a unique orientation to welcome 72 of 81 special education teachers joining the district from the Philippines on a J-1 Visa program. A J-1 Visa is a non-immigrant visa for research scholars, teachers, professors and exchange visitors participating in programs that promote cultural exchange. The teachers started their day with a visit to the world-famous Las Vegas sign, before taking part in a training session to prepare them for the 2017-18 school year. Afterward, they enjoyed lunch at the South Point Hotel. “One of our goals is to help teachers new to our country feel at home,” said Chief Recruitment Officer Michael Gentry. “We’re doing more than just welcoming them to CCSD as new teachers, we’re going further by trying to connect them to the community and with aspects of Las Vegas that most closely connect with where they’re from.”
